10 genuine methods for Bhutanese to make alternative income

If you think there are no other ways of making alternative income in Bhutan and you are suffering to make ends meet, probably you must have not gone out of your house and walked beyond your backyard lawn. If you really try to read things around you, there are many sources from which you can make good alternative income.

So today I have come up with a list of methods through which you can make good side income. There may be more. But I don't want to explain things I haven't experienced. So this list shall be a list of genuine alternative income making methods.

#1 RICBL Sales Executive Membership

You must have heard this before. There are 2000 plus Bhutanese working as part time Sales Executives with RICBL. It’s a commission based. You will be paid depending on the number of people you have helped in getting insured – just like referrals of any blog monetization program.

If you can insure more people, higher will be your commission. It’s very much simple. But they have different commission rates for different insurance policies. However it guarantees a continued income. Once a person you have recommended gets insured, you’ll be receiving commission until his policy gets matured.

I am also one such Sales Executive. I have attended training conducted by RICBL sometimes in 2014 and got certified. Till now, I have insured around 24 people (mostly my relatives and friends) fetching me monthly commission of Nu.3,500 per month. If I can insure more people, my commission will increase.

Since this provides an opportunity of making good money, some of my friends have resigned from their jobs and are into doing full time Sales Executives. They are earning as high as Nu.80,000 commission in a month.

#2 Freelance Tourist Guides

If you know how to communicate in Chinese, Japanese, Thai or Korean languages, you’ll get part time job as local tourists’ guide to guide tourists from those countries in and around Thimphu/Paro during weekends.

My office colleague Singye earns more than USD 100 per day by doing part time guide during weekends and government holidays. He has studied his bachelor degree in Japan and knows Japanese language well.

#3 Tuition Works

In town there is always one or two parents who want their children undergo tuition after school or during weekends. You can take one or two from your neighborhood and start the tuition in the subject where your capabilities lie. If you can do well, you will get more number of tutees in coming days thereby increasing your side income.

But it’s quite cumbersome. You have to study before tuition, prepare lesson plans and collect study materials to deliver valuable tuition. It’s best for teachers.

#4 Accounts Preparation

If you are good in book keeping, accounts preparation or Bhutanese tax computation policies, there will be someone who would love to have you handling their commercial works’ accounts. You can target travel agents. There are many travel agents who scratch their heads during annual BIT and PIT filing. You can grasp such opportunities.

You must know some people who are into such line of business. If you don’t, it’s never too early to start building relationship. My friend earns more than Nu.15,000 in a month out of handling accounts of petty businesses in and around Thimphu.

#5 Web Designing Works

If you have studied computer science, BCA or knows web designings and wants to make some alternative income, you can design websites and sell. You can focus travel agents.

They won’t look much into technicalities and professionalism. Many of my friends who are making side income from such works are just customizing WordPress themes and delivering to them. It’s not very difficult.

#6 Blogging & Affiliate Marketing

If you have a good blog with unique contents and good number of visitors, then you can start integrating it with various content monetization programs.

You can sign up with Google Adsense, VigLink, Bidvertiser, InFolinks and more to start earning some extra income out of your blog/website. You can read my recommended blog monetization programs for Bhutanese.

#7 Facebook Group/Page Maintenance

I am sure you must have come across the second hand stuffs trading group in Facebook. I am not talking about other copied versions of Passang Passu Tshering’s Facebook group. I am talking about B-bay founded by Passu Diary.

If you ask Passang Tshering on how much and how he earns from this group, you’ll get convinced that Facebook too can be a source of alternative income. But you must have good number of members or followers in page/group you can access.

#8 Website Contents Writing

Some travel agents are paying to update their websites with tourism related updates and happenings on regular basis. If you have good command in English and online marketing skills, you will surely get one or two travel agents who will be willing to pay for your services.

It’s not only travel agents, some new firms will also offer you with money to write reviews of their products or services to penetrate market.

#9 Freelance Photographer

Just like people of other countries, more and more Bhutanese people are becoming but who love being photographed in good dresses and during special occasions.

If you have passion in photography and also own good camera and accessories, people who want to photograph family photos, banner photos, ads photos, cover photos, content photos, album and visual are many.

#10 Other Sources

There are also many genuine ways of making alternative income in Bhutan. If you are passionate of paintings, drawings, wood carving, you can also make good side income during weekends. Your passion will remain lit as well as you will get paid.

Some of my friends are also making side income by selling cars or land plots of others for agreed rate of commission.

However, it doesn't mean that I am encouraging you to remain materialistic and go after money all the time. You should also give time for your children, parents, loved ones and friends. Money is not everything.

Which blog monetization program is best for Bhutanese Bloggers?

Bloggers can get registered with online content monetization programs. There are literally more than hundreds that provide this service for bloggers, affiliate marketers, website owners and also content developers.

But number should remain as number. We shouldn’t get excited looking at the numbers of content monetization program providers. All have their own shares of advantages and limitations. We, as bloggers whose long-run goal is to make money out of our blogs should exercise well in studying their advantages and limitations.

Time is precious. We cannot afford to waste our time spending on less helpful blog monetization programs.

I have also studied some of such programs. I have registered in which I think would worth my time and effort. In some, though I really wish to get registered and start monetizing my blog, I couldn’t do so due to their own policies or non-availability of their services in this geographical area. I will introduce all.

Google Adsense
This is one of the best content monetization programs any experienced online marketing expert would recommend for you.

It’s said that one can earn whenever visitors genuinely click on those ads being displayed in your website/blog footer, header, and sidebars.

Bloggers can submit the application for it. The Adsense team will review the blog you’ve submitted and respond accordingly. The response from their side will be either approval or disapproval. Former happens for new bloggers usually.

I love Google Adsense looking at the quality of their ads formats, availability of various helps for it, mode of payment and its popularity.

But it has a lot of restrictions and complicated policies. Your application won’t get approved in first few attempts. Since my application is also not yet in approved status, I cannot comment much about Google Adsense’s earning levels.

Will I recommend this to Bhutanese Bloggers?
Yes. It’s quite obvious that you will get disapproved for first few instances. First develop a good contents and traffics. It’s not recommended for bloggers having less number of articles or low traffics. It’s not for few days old bloggers.

InFolinks
This is the best Google Adsense alternative program for blog monetization. Registration procedures are simple and rules are easy. There are also not many approval scrutiny processes like in Google Adsense. This is best recommended for new bloggers who are having few numbers of posts and traffics level is quite lower.

Photo: Screenshot of my Infolink account

I have signed up with it few weeks before and it’s running successfully in my blog. I am earning at least $0.8 per day. And its payment threshold is $100. This means Infolinks will send your earnings when your accumulated earnings reach $100. This is quite lower when compared with other programs, which indeed is good for us. .

Viglink
Viglink is another blog monetization program that is as easy as Infolinks in installation and integration with your blog. The good part of Viglink is that it doesn’t have strict approval policies like in Google Adsense or other affiliate programs.

Photo: Screenshot of my Viglink account
Once you sign up with it and add its code in your template, things thereafter are being carried out by Viglink. Even high paid keyword linking is also done by itself. Literally you don’t have to do anything.

I have also signed up with it few weeks back. As of now, my blog couldn’t generate even a single cent out of this. May be things would change.

Chitika
Chitika is also one of my recommendations to monetize your blog. It also doesn’t have many approval procedures.

The integration and approval are very quick. But, I personally didn’t like it due to that fact of its account needing to get verified with paypal account. Since I don’t paypal account, I didn’t add this in my blog. Bloggers having paypal account can try it. It appears more tempting compare to infolinks and bidvertiser.

Bidvertiser
I personally love Bidvertiser and Infolinks more than other blog monetization programs I know of. The revenues/earnings my blog could receive in my respective account are higher in these two affiliate programs.

These two also has less approval procedures and integration is very easy. I think even primary school kid can do that. Guides are given in their respective websites.Read Here: How to register your blog with Bidvertiser to make money online.Click here to start earning from Bidvertiser: Monetize your Website or Blog with BidVertiser

How to install Alexa Page Rank widget in Blogger for free?

We, as bloggers, have useful Google's Google Page Rank and Alexa's Alexa Page Rank tools. They help us to study the popularity of our blogs/websites in internet world at an international level as well as at national level.

It's often the yardstick used by advertisers before actually agreeing to place ads in our websites or blogs. It's very much unlucky that a blog having low Alexa page rank will get lesser number of advertisers willing to advertise their products or services via that blog as low Alexa rank is a mathematical proof of being less popular.

Read: 10 effective methods to increase pageviews of a blog

But having said that, if we don't install Alexa Page rank widget in our blogs, how those advertisers or readers for that matter will know whether our blogs are doing good or not. They need a proof. And in such case, Alexa Page Rank comes handy.

Read: How to change default Robots.txt of a blog to improve page rank?

We cannot usually add this tool in our website unless we subscribe to their subscription plans. This means we have to pay to have an Alexa Page Rank gadget in our blogs.
ext-align: justify;">
Do you like spending for that? No really, I guess. This means, this post will help you in installing the Alexa Page Rank gadget in your blog without entailing any payment.

How to register your blog with Bidvertiser to make money online?

We have introduced three methods via which your blog can be used to make some additional money online. They are Google Adsense, Infolinks and Chitika. Unlike, in Google Adsense, in Infolinks and Chittika, registration procedures and time taken for approval is short. They are the recommended methods for new bloggers.

If you're one of new bloggers whose application in Google Adsense didn't get approve, we have another such recommendation i.e. Bidvertiser. Just like in Chitika and Infolinks, registration and approval procedures are short and instant.

Can we really make money from display of Infolinks Ads in blogs?

I have realized that Sherab Tenzin (owner of this blog) has signed up with online advertising program and has started monetizing his blog-To Learn Blogging. We can see various ads of it being displayed.

But in this post, I want to make you understand whether one can really make money out of infolinks ads.

When more bloggers hop in and decide to monetize their blogs with display of infolinks ads, it appears tempting. But we have to understand the truth.

We know that ads of Infolinks can be shown in six formats. It's being shared already by Sherab in this post

I really don't like Infolinks showing ads of Facebook signups in all of its in text and in tag ads.

If you don't believe what I have to say, you can open this blog and make your cursor hover above those infolinks ads. All ads will be that of Facebook signup ads.

Read: How to download videos shared in Facebook without problem?

What we can really make out of this is that Facebook must be the highest sole advertiser of Infolinks.

When all ads are that of one advertiser, we can also say that it doesn't have good relationships with other such advertisers. No diversification in ads.

And let us get to the point. When all the ads are of Facebook signups, how many readers of the blog will actually create Facebook account. These days almost all have Facebook accounts. This means probably at the most few will create. So the possibility of making good money out of infolinks ads will be bleak.

Read: Why I have decided to monetize my blog's contents with Infolinks?

But I am not discouraging from monetizing your blog with Infolinks. I just wanted to say that you must be really analytically calculative. You must do cost-benefit analysis.

Let us list few costs and benefits of monetizing a blog with infolinks. Because they will probably help you in deciding whether to monetize a blog with it or not.

Costs:
When infolinks ads are activated in the blog, appearance of the blog gets disturbed and doesn't look professionally clean-readers may not love it.

In text ads provide links to many texts within the posts. This would confuse readers in knowing a ads' link and real link.

The ads make navigation across the website quite cumbersome. This may drive away the visitors from the first glance.

All the ads are that of Facebook signups. Hardly anyone would create Facebook account just because your blog has the ads.

Benefits:
Your blog's content will make money. But this depends on number of clicks your blog can bring unto those ads.

It's another alternative if you want to monetize a blog's contents. Other popular advertising program like that of Google Adsense has strict rules and regulations.

When I gave both costs and benefits of monetizing a blog's contents with Infolinks, I am sure you must have been taken on fence-not knowing whether to activate infolinks ads or not in your blog.

Recommendations
If you really want to monetize your blog and has good contents, you can apply for Google Adsense. Ads diversification is very good.

If you have applied for Google Adsense and your blog didn't qualify for it then you can signup with Chitika and Amazon

If you want different ads of different advertisers, you can signup for infolinks. It will take quite a time to make money from infolinks alone.

If you are blogging purely out of passion and doesn't want to monetize your blog's contents, don't signup for any other such programs. They distort the professional appearances and designs of a blog.

Why I have decided to monetize my blog's contents with Infolinks?

I created this blog just to write what I know and then share them to as many readers as possible. I thought there will be someone who will be interested in what I write and then take them seriously.

I didn’t have anything more than that. I have come with this thought all along. So I kept on writing what I know and then sharing them in various social media.

In due course of time, I was made to realize that indeed there are many who are interested in my stuffs. The number of people who view my blog keeps on increasing. Some bloggers ask my help in redesigning their blogs. Some want me to suggest blog templates for them. And some say they love my blog’s contents.

This means, to some extent, I have become useful. You can say I am having situational advantage here then.

Why I am blogging? Because I love blogging. And why people are reading my blog? Because what I write and share, they find useful.

This means people will support me in keeping my passion in blogging lit as far as I don’t fail to feed them with new updates.

It was then I thought why I not monetize my blog? Monetizing a blog means getting registered in some third party online advertisers and allowing them to display ads in your blog. The blog owner will get the commission.

I then did some researches on various blog monetizing programs. I came to know three: Google Adsense, InfoLinks and Chitika. Google Adsense is very popular in this line of business and bloggers prefer this.

Some professional bloggers are earning more than 5,000 USD per month out of Google Adsense alone. Now even websites having good traffics are getting registered with it. So degree of competition is really high in Google Adsense.

Moreover getting a blog registered with Google Adsense isn’t easy. They look into quality of contents and volume of traffics. And then a blog should be at least six months if you are from Asian continent.

This means Google Adsense isn’t for new bloggers like you and me. They won’t accept our application forget about earning money.

But this is not the end. We have other companies that are in same line of business and criteria for application acceptance aren’t as strict as in Google Adsense. Infolinks and Chitika are there for us.

There aren’t any criteria in Infolinks. You can get registered, customize default ads according to your blog’s deign and then start displaying ads in your blog. In Infolinks, there are six different ads. They are:
  1. In Text: Related text from your blog will be linked by Infolink with their suitable ads.
  2. InFold: Pop up sort of ads will be appeared from the bottom of your blog body.
  3. In Tag: A list of ads-linked text will be added at the footer of your blog body.
  4. In Frame: Inward sliding ads on the both sidebar frame of your blog.
  5. In Screen: A pop up kind of ads when a reader first opens your blog.
  6. Banner: An image linking to the signup at Infolinks. It can be added in footer, sidebar or in header frame.

You can activate all. You can see its ads in my blog too except in screen ads. Once the ads are being displayed, commission money will keep coming in your Infolinks account whenever a reader clicks on them.

But for Chitika, you need PayPal account to verify your Chitika account. Even if you don’t have one, you can still enable display of its ads in your blog. This is exactly what I am doing with it right now. I just want to see whether they would release my commission even if my account remains unverified.

It’s for this reason only I have shown only one frame of Chitika Ads. You can ignore Chitika if you don’t have a PayPal account. Instead try Infolinks where you don’t have any strict criteria. You can click here to get registered with Infolinks directly.

If you have any questions on these three blog monetization programs, you can leave them in the comment. I will answer them in my comment section.
