8 common cons of maintaining a blog at medium.com

Today let us see disadvantages of blogging at medium.com.  


1. No Templates

There is one and only one template. The preferences of its customers aren’t taken into consideration. If you’re going to open a blog at medium.com, be ready to remain fixed with just one blog template they have provided.

2. No Freedom

When there aren’t options to pick up templates base on your likes and dislikes, you are actually being forced to accept what they have provided. There is no freedom for you.

3. Too Simple

Blogging with medium is too simple. Even average computer literate can use it comfortably-no HTMLs, CSS, Gadgets, designs customization access. There is no room for learning and improvement. Your blogging knowledge will remain same till the end.

4. Copyright Issues

The import of articles from other websites though is quite easy at medium.com, there is no means whereby articles to be imported are being verified of their true owners. Copyright related problem isn’t taken care as much as it deserves.

5. No Gadgets

You cannot add any gadgets forget about third party gadgets. It even doesn’t have its own. This means you cannot add additional information frames like recent posts, popular posts, profile, Facebook like box, followers, subscription button etc. either in sidebar or footer area. 

6. No Customization

You cannot edit template, add header banner, gadgets or third party templates. There isn’t any customization access given for you. Literally you cannot change anything in your medium.com blog. You can only change post thumbnails and may be font styles or sizes in post.

7. Not Bigger Platform

People often criticize medium.com as being a place to just share information and not a blogging platform. They say that it doesn’t qualify to be one when professionalism, users and designs are being considered. If your aim is to become a professional blogger, medium.com won’t be a right choice. 

8. Content Security

Since medium.com is one of the new blogging platforms, there is a possibility that it may fail like new comer blogging platforms. If it remains, it is of well and good. But it cannot do well and has to leave the business, and then all your blog contents will be gone with them. 

Therefore, many people are of the view that medium.com is more into sharing and reading. Not into writing thing. If you have blog in other platforms and share them in medium.com, it will improve audience of your blog. Sharing of articles and discovering of new good articles are easy at medium.com.
