8 advantages of activating comment moderation in blogger

You must have commented in many blogs. And in all the blogs, your comment must have not become visible right after you have clicked on the publish button. Instead a statement saying ‘Your comment will be visible after approval’ will be displayed.

This means the blog in which you have commented has comment moderation enabled.

Why comment should be moderated?

Some bloggers may say comments shouldn’t be moderated. It’s like taking away the rights of people who have commented seeing their own comment.

The person who commented it cannot see the comment immediately. I think that will be the only disadvantage of comment moderation.

Whatsoever I like comments to be moderated. Let me give the reasons:

Comment Filtration
Commenting is now a means to gain more readership and exposure adapted by new bloggers. New bloggers will go on commenting in other well established blog just to advertise their blogs. All comments may not be worth of publishing. Comment moderation helps comment filtration.

Deletion of Spams
A blog having good traffic will have higher rate spams inflow as comments. Some jealous people may try to first comment and then gradually intrude the blog’s privacy. Comment moderation acts as first level of security check.

Comment Duplication
When a blog receives good number of readers and higher comments inflow, the possibility of conceptually same comment getting repeated will be higher. It is useless publishing same or similar comment. Comment moderation will take care of it.

Professional
Since comment moderation will avoid coming of spams, deletion of duplicated comments and publishing of only post-related comments, readers will consider the blog professionally managed.

Reply when free
The admin cannot reply to a comment as soon as a person has commented if the comment moderation isn’t activated. Commenters will often feel rejected when admin is replying after few days from the date of commenting when in reality admin was busily engaged.

Study Readers
It’s often through the way a person leaves comment in your blog displays behavioral characteristics of him/her. If you don’t like certain behaviors of some people, you can directly deleted it or keep its as spam for time being to study well.

Preserve Reputation
Some people have a tendency to leave unnecessary comment just to advertise their blogs with the intention to get backlinks for their blogs. Some even comment which are totally unrelated to the post and ask irrelevant helps. When such things are seen on the blog, readers may get annoyed for accepting comments like dustbin which take your reputation at brink. Comment moderation will look into this well.

Repeated Readers
This is more to do with readers’ psychology. A person who has commented in my blog and hasn’t seen his comment at that instant is more likely to visit again compare to a person who has commented and also saw it being displayed.

Final Words
Therefore, it’s always better to activate comment moderation in your blog. There are more reasons to moderate them than not.

  1. Although I do not get many comments on my blog, I do agree with these points. I have comment moderation enabled on my blog mainly because I want to be able to interact with those who do take the time to post a comment. As I started my blog as a way to update friends and family back home of my travels, I am often asleep when they are awake and reading the post. I've also found that when I was getting comments (prior to enabling comment moderation), I was getting a lot of spammy posts in the comments. That quickly went away after the moderation was enabled!

  2. Dear Stephanie,
You're right by saying that having comment moderation enabled in a blog helps us to interact with our readers. Otherwise, we often miss to see how many people and who have commented without moderation. Thanks for your visit. Enjoy your travels in Aussieland. Takecare!
